Toddler Artwork and Coffee? An unexpected combination brews up some amazing creations!

This month, Blue Dog Coffee Roasters is featuring the creations of some of Brantford’s youngest artist, the children from the Parenting and Family Literacy Centre (PFLC) at Christ the King Catholic School. The PFLC is a drop-in program welcoming parents/caregivers and children from babies to 6 years old to play and learn together.

Over the past few months the children and their families who attend the program have been exploring different art mediums at the centre. Art gives children an opportunity to express their ideas, feelings and how they see the world. Rich experiences are offered through art exploration. When children feel they belong they become engaged learners and are able to express themselves in many ways.

“It was difficult to pick which art pieces to display as all the children’s art was special,” said Kathy Przednowek, the Parent Facilitator at Parenting and Family Literacy Centre. At the center, we focus on the process of the art experience, which fosters the children’s blossoming creativity.

“We believe that children learn through doing and creating. The children have created their art with their own ideas,” said Mrs. Hanley, Principal of Christ the King Catholic School. "At the centre, we celebrate the joy of learning together on a daily basis, through projects big and small, playtime, music time and active movement in the gym. We believe that the parent is a child’s first teacher and we offer a place where everyone belongs."
